"I stumbled across this album through blog sites which reviewed unknown, obscure or forgotten bands of various genres. Buffalo was a band formed in the early 70's in Australia, following the blues and hard rock tradition. Their first lp dipped into a variety of hard rock and blues styles, some of which was very good, but overall lacked cohesiveness. During their tour they went back to the studio and cranked out this masterpiece, which was straight up heavy hard rock. There is not a bad tune in the bunch, from "Sunrise," to what became their signature concert tune, "Shylock," one of the heaviest tunes to come out of the 70s. How to decribe it? Think Steppenwolf vocals with Sabbath's rhythm section, and you come close. From quick, pounding tunes to 9+ minute epics, Volcanic Rock is THE unheard 70's hard rock masterpiece that was criminally overlooked overseas. Now on cd, listeners have a chance to check out one of the great Australian rock bands of the 70s. Bonus cuts include a mono single version of "Sunrise," and a live version of "Shylock" which sounds like an audience recording -- not very good sound quality, but it gives an insight as to their live performance."
They were the best

"I saw this group Live 3 times, and their attack of heavy rock was phenomenal. Also saw Black Sabbath when they were out here in 1975, and there was really no comparison. If Buffalo would've had a promotion & touring program put together properly, they would've been as big as Sabbath & Slade, not too far behind Zeppelin. Listen to this & feel just raw energy. Takes me back to when Rock was ROCK..."
