CD ReviewsVery good late career DeFranco 03/10/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "It's nice to see Buddy DeFranco being recorded at age 80. He has played Jazz Showcase in Chicago the past few summers and I can testify that he's still a brilliant player. This disk will demonstrate that to listeners who haven't heard him recently. Buddy is accompanied by the John Pizzarelli Trio and drummer Butch Miles, which is a mixed bag. Because of his popularity as a vocalist, Pizzarelli sings on "Prisoner of Love" and "What's This Thing Called Love?" These tunes come off sounding fine, though Pizzarelli's vocal appearance detracts a bit from the notion that this is DeFranco's record even if you do get to hear Buddy as accompanist. The addition of Miles on drums gives the session a heavier feel than you're used to hearing on a Pizzarelli record. It would have been nice to hear Buddy play with just the trio on at least a track or two. But these are minor complaints. It's worth celebrating that Buddy gets to headline his own record on a label that has significant distribution. Enjoy!"
