A long, excellent CD

"Bud was at the height of his powers when these recordings were made. It's a very enjoyable CD that is fun to listen to over and over. Of course there is also the complete Blue Note and the complete Verve sets to buy, but for a single CD of Bud this is arguably the best choice in terms of hearing Bud at his best. The improvisational lines are long and intelligent and a pleasure to follow. The sound quality is very good. Be sure to buy the book "The Glass Enclosure: The Life of Bud Powell" by Alan Groves and Alyn Shipton while you still can. It was recently reprinted (first edition was 1993 )and who knows how long it will remain available before going out of print again."
Greatest jazz pianist ever?

"The more Powell reissues hit the market, the better. This genius and innovator, who deserves status right alongside Charlie Parker, remains under appreciated to this day. Although his career was full of turmoil and inconsistent periods, there is no doubt about Powell's absolute intensity and power at his peaks. His bop piano style has been widely imitated, and made more pleasant by followers and contemporaries. But there is comparison to Powell himself."
