CD Reviews

Another solid wedge from Buckethead!
M. Ryan Fairbanks | Cleveland, Ohio | 02/07/2008

"Guitar legend Buckethead has once again collaborated with bassist/producer Dan Monti to give us another amazing recording! Decoding the Tomb of Bansheebot was one of Buckethead's best releases of 2007 and is often compared to the equally amazing Pepper's Ghost album due to it's similarities in style. However DtToB continues to expand of the catchier simplistic style of songs that Pepper's Ghost offered.

Here songs range from fast paced thrash style tunes (Materializing the Disembodied, Killing Cone), to mellow rockers (Ghost Host, Stretching Light House), and to the bizarre (Circarama, Hall of Scalding Vats). Add to that another handful of great tunes including a heartfelt guitar tribute to his late Aunt Suzie (Sail on Soothsayer.)

Decoding the Tombs of Bansheebot is another great wedge from Buckethead showing his great versatility, songwriting, and guitar playing in general. This is definietly one to pick up at all costs. Also remember www.tdrs.com is the official distributor of this album and it is sold for the best price there."
Decoding the Tomb, one of Bucket's best.

"Having discovered Buckethead only a few months ago, I have found myself working my way through his material (all that I can get) to the point that I now have more of his albums than any other artist's I own. Acquiring (some of it I actually got for free, legally) Bucket's music is akin to mining for precious stones. You really have to sift through some rather worthless (sorry, for lack of a better term)stuff to come up with the gems. Decoding the Tomb is definitly one of those gems. I have been listening to it almost exclusively (and I have close to two thousand albums) for the last two weeks. Prior to this I was hooked on "Peppers Ghost" a great album in it's own right, but I think this may be even better. The song "Sail on Soothsayer" has so much emotion in it I find myself just getting lost in the music altogether. Contrast that to my thoughts on the album "Cyborg Slunks" which I find almost unlistenable,(except for the song "Aunt Suzie") and you will understand my mining analogy. If you are new to Buckethead this may not be the best place to start, I might recommend "Monsters and Robots", "Electric Tears" or "Colma" (ho-hum, the usual recommendations). If you are familiar with Bucket and you enjoy his untraditional style then you will love this album I'm sure. One of his best!"
Solid Buckethead

"Buckethead has produced a solid album. Completely in the Buckethead style although different. It's not as eccentric as some of this other albums but is almost an amalgam of everything he's done to date. The songs seem more balanced between the incidental effects and the melodic/rythmic components.

Very good album. Very listen able album. This may be the album that gets non-fans on board and appreciate his uniqueness and inventiveness."
