"Before Buck Owens totally saturated himself in TV numbness, he recorded some of the finest pop-oriented country music up to that time. But the emphasis is on Country-The Bakersfield sound-- not that truly bland amalgum of computer pop that is now called country.Buck's music abounded in great melodies, catchy phrases, and a sharp top down car radio beat. Her wrote almost all his material. This collection on two cds captures virtually all of his greatest hits including a strong solo version of Streets of Bakersfield which ends the set. One of my all-time favorite country songs is Buck's "Waiting in Your Welfare Line". This song is a hoot. Unless your are really a hard core fan and want the 5 cd box set--this collection gives you the cream of the crop without one dud in the mix."
