Synopsis
Album Description Now considered one of the most important of 19th-century symphonists, during his lifetime, bruckner was the subject of incomprehension and ridicule. Sir georg solti made two recordings of this symphonic edifice. While his chicago recording has been in regular circulation, this much-requested reissue of the seventh with the vienna philharmonic has lain dormant for far too long and is now exhumed on decca eloquence at budget price. The legendary producer/engineer team of john culshaw and gordon parry capture the full splendour of the sofiensaal acoustics and the 1965 sound is sonorous and burnished. Composers: bruckner, conductors: sir georg solti, orchestras: wiener philharmoniker Similar CDs

CD ReviewsWhat a Seventh!!!! Ryan Kouroukis | Toronto, Ontario Canada | 09/05/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "As soon as a heard about Solti's recording of Bruckner with the Vienna Philharmonic from the '60's and with John Culshaw producing, I absolutely knew it was going to be fantastic! And not only did it level my expectations but surpassed them!
The Vienna strings glow so smoothly and warmly, the brass is as smooth and warm but not as blaring as in Solti's Chicago recordings of Bruckner (which I don't like so much...except the 6th). The sound recording is probably the best of any single Bruckner recording I've heard. All kinds of details come out I've never heard before! The interpretation can really be called Magical, as there is a nostalgic and mysterious quality, at the same time being spontaneous and secure. You can feel the Love the Vienna players have for this piece when you hear this recording!" |
