POWERFUL!!!

"Admittedly not a huge Bruce fan, although I've always loved Thunder Road. Elvis Costello mentioned this album along with E Street Shuffle when he interviewed Springsteen on his show Spectacle. Elvis gushed over them. So I bought both cd's. Not too crazy about E Street. Put this on....WOW! one reviewer mentioned a religious experience..yeah, that's pretty close to it for me.I had already heard at least four of these songs on the radio over the years, but this was the first time I had ever heard Adam Raised a Cain, Candy's Room and Racing in the Streets. Can't get enough. So Powerful!!! Even the songs I've heard over and over on classic radio stations like Promised Land, seem to take on more power or something when listened to along with these songs. One song feeds off the next. This cd has not been off my player. It's a great feeling to hear amazing music from someone you'd kind of written off...Maybe I'll give E street another listen."
Beginning of a trilogy of three of the greatest albums ever

"Just on the merits of the lyrics alone, this is a great album, but throw in some beautiful music too and this is an all-time classic album. Yes its dark, but you can blame Springsteen? His muse, working class Jersey was going through some tough times in late 70s, which he seems to probe while providing some hope, just listen to the acme of this album, "Promised Land". Third verse of the song's lyrics provide such defiance in the face of tough times (something that still rings true today)...

"Gonna be a twister to blow everything down

That ain't got the faith to stand its ground

Blow away the dreams that tear you apart

Blow away the dreams that break your heart

Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted."

But the amazing thing is that after completing this great album, Springsteen examines how rough life can be for the working class in his next two albums, which are also fantastic. Just consider the lyrics for "The River" on The River, and then "State Trooper" and "Reason to Believe" on Nebraska. Springsteen's later stuff is good, but with the exception of The Rising, it never reach the depth and beauty that Springsteen expresses about the concerns of the US during tough times as he was able to write and sing in Darkness on The Edge of Town. Besides "Badlands", "Prove it all night", and "Something in the Night" would be masterpieces on any other album."

"Darkness on the Edge of Town came out in 1978, Bruce was coming off one of his best album's "Born to Run". After some legal problems with his old producer that delayed the project 2 plus years, Bruce came out with a very strong personal statement with this album. Every track is a winner. One of my favorite Springsteen Disc's. Rock and Roll at it's finest. He would walk across the River next..."
