In 1959, Brook Benton ushered in a new era of sophisticated soul music with his first Number One hit, "It?s Just a Matter of Time". Lush string arrangements became his hallmark, a perfect complement to his creamy, warm baritone and silky smooth ballad style. He reigned supreme throughout the mid-sixties with twenty-five Top Forty hits, including six chart-topping smashes. A remarkably talented songwriter, Benton co-wrote the majority of his hits, largely with his producer Clyde Otis. In 1970, he crowned his illustrious career with the Number One Gold Record Rainy Night in Georgia.
