Debuting on Broadway in 2007, Disney's The Little Mermaid features well-known music from the animated movie by Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman, as well as new compositions by Menken with lyrics by Glenn Slater. There are 38 tracks on this album: Tracks 1-19 contain the background tracks and guide vocals; tracks 20-38 contain the accompaniment tracks alone. This album is a re-recording in the original show key and show tempo. There are no on-screen lyrics or lyric booklet provided.

"I wasn't certain about whether I should buy this disc because many of the guide vocals on CD's I have purchased before sound too mechanical, but these performers are great, and so is the sound quality. I especially love Sharon McNight as "Ursula". I wish that she were in the Broadway production of The Little Mermaid when I saw it in New York City. She completely blows away the lady that I saw performing Ursula's part. I would love to find more CD's of just Sharon McNight's material. But, in the meantime, buy this disc now!"

"I can guarantee that if you are looking for the best karaoke style Little Mermaid Broadway CD out there, this is it! Trust me, I've looked...and looked. I'll admit, it bugs me to death that there are 9 songs missing from this album that were in the Original Broadway Cast recording; like "Storm at Sea", the Finale, and 7 out of 8 reprises. However, everything else is spot on! For an accompaniment recording, the singers play their parts really well with the exception of maybe Ursula. But more importantly, since the album doesn't come with printed lyrics for the songs, I'm pleased that the singers are very easy to understand, so learning the songs by ear is a breeze. The instrumentals are great too. It sound like the symphony was recorded in a big auditorium instead of a studio, so if you like that "live on the stage" sound, it's there. 4/5 stars for the near perfection of the whole package, but jeers for the lack of 9 songs."
