CD ReviewsUpbeat Hawaiian Light Jazz Ukulele Music M. Chaplin | Connecticut, USA | 03/26/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "This collection of songs are upbeat, Hawaiian-influenced and a breath of fresh musical air. This is the kind of music to listen to in your car or home on a bright sunny day or on a rainy day when you need cheering up. It has a light jazzy feel for the ukulele and for the other instruments in accompaniment. Brittni Paiva is a beautiful Hawaiian who was about 21 years-old when these songs were recorded. She is popular on the islands and hopefully soon will be popular world-wide!" She's now 21 and still exploring new directions for the ukul Steven I. I first discovered this "still" young ukulele player from Hawaii by hearing a track on an "acoustic" sampler. That track, " Ukulele Boogie" from her 2nd CD titled Hear grabbed my attention, and I had to hear more. This led me to three of her CDs - recorded over a period of thee years. But these were formative years for this young prodigy and each CD has a different style - though all are worth hearing. The most recent album, 2009's "Four Strings: The Fire Within" finds Brittni in a full jazz mode. Now she is married and - at age 21 - is fully matured. She's playing uke and guitar, but its more integrated into the songs which have a light easy jazz flair. This CD reminds me of the early "band" records fellow jazz uke player Jake Shimabukuro made early in his career before heading out to only make solo CDs. This is a far different album than 2005's Hear but I like it just as much. As some comedian used to say "It's the same... only different". I've been playing this one a lot. I've covered three of Brittni's albums here on Amazon. You can search the others for my comments on those. But, overall this a a very talented young woman with a lot of creativity and musicianship. And she's only 22 this year! I can only wonder where she'll take her music on future releases. I hope I'm along for the journey. Steve Ramm "Anything Phonographic" " |
