A very pleasant surprise

"i recently moved across the country and, while packing, joyfully rediscovered my madder rose albums. "bring it down" was a staple of my freshman year in college and it thankfully sounds just as good 9 years later. the songs don't sound dated at all and this album quickly came back to be one of my favourites, especially for driving around in my car. isn't it great when you find out that you still love a band years later? the song "sugarsweet" is hypnotic, kind of understated and edgy at the same time. i also love "waiting for engines." i would recommend this band to anyone who is into the so-called "indie music" scene and is looking for still another amazing yet overlooked band that deserves a lot more attention."
Beautiful and strong

"As with Bettie Serveert's Carol van Djiyk, i've always admired the sheer grace that you can hear in Mary Lorson's voice. Even when she is singing the most heart-aching of the tracks, you can still hear the undertone of defiance and strength. Add to that the musicianship of Billy and the boys behind her, and the excellent, varied arrangements, and you have an album that can keep you warm on a dark, lonely night, or just as happily be blaring from the car stereo on a long summer drive."
