Synopsis

Product Description
Brigitte DeMeyer writes songs as weavers thread tapestries, her most vivid colors being a Southern feel, a churchy soulfulness in her vocals, and a way with words that bore comparison to literature as easily as to the best contemporary lyrics. On Red River Flower, Brigitte gathers some of her favorite collaborators, including producer Brady Blade and Americana legend Buddy Miller, along with steel and dobro player Al Perkins, to name a few, musicians whose empathy for DeMeyer's songs impresses nearly as much as the songs themselves. From the first track, the groove is relaxed but irresistible, sweetened by rustic dobro fills from Al Perkins and down-home harmonies: The feeling continues throughout Red River Flower, whose acoustic textures and flashes of rock intensity illuminate the ache and understatement of DeMeyer's vocal. Listening to Red River Flower is like stepping into a friend's living room, the conversation shifting from whispers to laughter, just before she boards that train toward bigger stages and brighter times.

CD Reviews

An exquisite Americana offering
Joe Sixpack -- Slipcue.com | ...in Middle America | 02/19/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Another great album from this California-based, bluesy roots crooner... Where earlier albums had a rougher edge, this is a languid, mellow set, with a healthy dose of a Norah Jones-style smoky, sultry vibe, full of deep, soulful pedal steel and unhurried acoustic guitar, and excellent songwriting. Each song is a gem, as the album flows from strength to strength. Alt-Americana guest players include Buddy Miller and Brady Blade (bandmates in Emmylou Harris' Spyboy band) as well as pedal steel legend Al Perkins who contributes some sweet licks to an album that is sure to hold up well over the years. Recommended! (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Music Guide)"
