CD ReviewsPowerful, wonderful record Mark Miazga | 07/31/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "Don't be fooled by the description - this is Brenda Kahn's fifth album, and one of her best. Written in the wake of friend Jeff Buckley's premature drownign death, Kahn has created a powerful, stoic, fierce masterpiece of an acoustic album. The neat thing about this album is its extreme lack of production, and the power Kahn is still able to convey. While "Epiphany in Brooklyn" and "Destination Anywhere" (Kahn's 2nd and 3rd albums) are two of my favorites of all time, they sound completely different from this fifth album because of the production. Thoughout the album "Hunger" and its title track, she forsakes production by making her own performance more intense. Her hands brushing along the body of the guitar, her fingers squeaking on the keys, her voice braying with passion and cascading from a whisper to a roar - these all make up for the lack of production. The effect is an extremely intimate album. The lyrics are brilliant yet subdued, and the effect overwhelmingly powerful. Don't miss this album." Brenda Kahn continues to write great stuff David Myers | Franklin, TN | 03/29/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "Brenda Kahn's latest effort is her best since her breakthrough, Epiphany in Brooklyn (1992). Her songwriting has never been more solid, and several tracks are just brilliant. As usual, she's at her best when she's somewhere betwen solemn (e.g., "Light") and haunting (e.g., the title track "Hunger")."
