Passionate Brahms

"The conductor and both orchestras here are hardly household names. However, if you like your Brahms played with lots of passion and feeling, this CD will give you 60 minutes of great listening. Although both performances are by the same conductor, the performances are quite different. The symphony is powerful and quite taut. The Variations are extremely lyrical and on the slow side. I also have the Variations conducted by Eugene Ormandy with his Philadelphians. That performance is at least two minutes faster but it sounds superficial. Here the music has tremendous personality. If you can find this CD, I would buy it."
