"Brad Mehldau is without a doubt the best young piano player in today's Jazz. His orchestral way of playing the piano, where he solos, plays harmony and rhythm all at the same time (very well illustrated in this CD by the second half of "Fit Cat," after the change in rhythm, and "Secret Beach")is just unique an exquisite. Actually, in this interpretation of "Secret Beach" he ably replaces Pat Metheny's synth-guitar solo recorded previously, with his archestral piano playing, live at Village Vanguard. I also enjoyed his interpretation of Chico Buarque's "O Que Sera," even though his solo interpretation of the same Brazilian composer's "Retrato em Preto e Branco" at the Newport Jazz Festival three years ago just knocked my socks off."
