CD ReviewsYou'll be hooked fast Patrick Barrett | Portland Orygun, USA | 02/25/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "I first saw Boyd Small and his orchestra at the 1998 Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland. After hearing the first couple songs I made a bee-line to the tent selling CD's. These guys have the coolest blues/swing sound I've heard in a while. Good blues swing beats with some amazing guitar and harmonica work. And the song diversity is broad too. Boyd used to be the drummer for Screamin' Jay Hawkins (coolest version of "I Put A Spell On You" ever) and after a singing/drumming stint in the Pacific NW moved to the 51st state (Amsterdam) to continue to hone his chops. He's big in Europe; serious. Has an album after this and a smaller group album on the Cool Buzz label. Get this album and you'll never take it out of the player."
