CD Reviews

Great CD!

"Well worth the $30 import cost! I bought this from Amazon France as soon as it was released a few months ago because I love Bonnie and didn't want to wait. This album is fantastic. New French/English duet of Total Eclipse Of The Heart (which was a huge hit in France recently) with a French female singer (they also did a duet of It's A Heartache). There are a few remakes of some older Bonnie song's like Holding Out For A Hero and If You Were A Woman... But the new songs are great. Simply Believe is a great rock and roll song and Bonnie ROCKS! All Night To Know You and If I Close My Eyes are amazing rock ballads and there are plenty of other great up tempo tunes. This is one of those albums you play over and over when you first get it because it's a 'feel good' CD. Just some great rock and pop tunes that are fun to listen to in the car and make you just want to keep driving...and as always Bonnie puts her own little spin on things. Highly recommended!"

"This is only the second Bonnie Tyler album I purchased. The first one was "Faster than the Speed of Night" which I thought was a fantastic set. On "Simply Believe" the French/English version of Total Eclipse of the Heart is a striking contrast to the original. Bonnie's voice seems to get a little more gravel with age but she does well with her duet counterpart Kareen Antonn. In fact on that one, I think Kareen steals the show. She counterparts again on "It's a heartache". After hearing those two duets I wondered how Kareen would have done in solo. She is fantastic. Nonetheless the entire album is well worth having and listening to over and over again. Bonnie is a rocker. "Simply Believe" and the 04 version of "Looking out for a Hero" are my absolute favorites but there is not a bad cut on the entire album. If you love Bonnie, don't hesitate. You'll love Simply Believe!"
Bonnie's best since NOTES FROM AMERICA

"I love, love, love Bonnie Tyler. I have got all of her albums since her very first one. This is a wonderful album, and the best since 1988. Why only give 4*. Well, I can't give 1/2*. The other reason? I don't like the new version of HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO, and IF YOU WERE A WOMAN does not add anything to the original one that dates back to 1986. I like the HERE SHE COMES new version, which was on the METROPOLIS soundtrack back in 1984. I prefer the original version of the last track, and ALL NIGHT TO KNOW YOU is not a bad song, but has never been a favorite of mine. This being said, all the other tracks, which are all new (10) in addition to new versions of her massive hit TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART (10 weeks on top of the French charts and 9 weeks on top of the charts in Belgian) and IT'S A HEARTACHE (newly released wingle), both interpreted as duets (French & English) with Kareen Antonn, who got a taste of the limelight in her late teens, especially in Japan, besides scoring a top 40 hit with her band on the Billboard charts. Both those new versions are simply great! I can highly recommend this album, which I have been listening to every day since I got it back in May. The inlay looks good too, and that makes a nice package. As far as the newly-recorded tracks go:SI DEMAIN & SI TOUT S'ARRETE: great new versions with beautifully-translated French lyricsSIMPLY BELIEVE: hard bluesy and rock sound with a Bonnie as we can remember her from the 80s (Bonnie co-wrote)BACK IN MY ARMS; nice slow songOPEN YOUR ARMS: pop song with a real nice beat (Bonnie co-wrote)NOBODY BETTER: one of my favorite songs. Pop-rock vibe with a great beat!WHEN I CLOSE MY EYES: a highlight on the album where we discover a sensitive Bonnie. Great lyrics, and wonderful song to dance to!IT'S IN THE BACK OF MY MIND: good lyrics, pop-rock influence. Good songI WANT YOU: a song with an edge that really gets you going. (Bonnie co-wrote)DARLIN': cover version of an old Frankie Miller song that also made it into the country charts in the 70s. This version has a somewhat rockier, more modern edge to it.The last two tracks have a strong rock-edge to them. ALL NIGHT TO KNOW YOU is one of those big heavy rock ballads while DRIVING ME WILD is an "in-your-face" kind of song."
