CD Reviews

Close, If Not Their Best Yet
06/06/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I purchased this album about a year ago. I've still got the album in my CD player ready to go when I hop in the car. This album just makes me want to sing the songs as I listen to them...there are very little bands that can get me to do that to even one song, the Bodeans get me to sing every song on this album...along with the songs on Joe Dirt Car-my favorite is Still the night(Joe Dirt Car), followed closely by The Understanding(Blend). The Bodeans have the ability to catch my attention whenever I hear them. If you were to buy a Bodeans album, get Joe Dirt Car...but don't overlook this one. If you enjoy Joe Dirt Car, you'll love this one."
BoDeans Show Maturity, Staying Power
06/19/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"You're not going to rock out with this album, or even want to dance to it. That said, this is a wonderful offering from a diverse band that keeps us wondering what their next record will sound like. The two tunes that rock the most are "Count On Me" and "Heart Of A Miracle", the latter being a feel-good song filled with emotion that brings it home. But the real treat here is the maturity in songwriting. Two beautiful ballads close the record in "Red Roses" and "Lullabye". "Can't Stop Thinking" is a light little number about a man whose not ashamed to admit he can't stop thinking about his baby. This song just feels so right. Two strong songs are "Understanding" and "Hurt By Love", the latter being about a man telling his son how giving your heart to someone can totally beat you and break you down, eventually. "All I Ever Wanted" is one of the album's best songs, and for my money one of the best tunes they've ever written. Its themes of sexual abuse and child neglect are things you won't see many bands touch. But the Bo-Deans describe the female victim vividly, until by the end of the song you either want to bawl or rip your heart out. This is an album that not only every Bo-Deans fan should have, but that anyone who really listens to songwriting should appreciate. People that put down this album are missing the boat. Carry on Bo-Deans, and we will listen, learn, and grow with you."
The Boys Next Door Have Done It Again

"I have been a Bodeans faithful since their days at the Bluemound Bowl in Waukesha. They haven't missed a beat. I have shared their music with friends in England, France, Denmark, Belgium, Luxumbourg, Isreal, Saudi Arabia, and all over the U.S. And now Blend....further reason to spread the musical talents of this great band. We love you!!"
