CD Reviews

A great cd by a great soul artist
Ryan Freedman | West Orange, NJ USA | 10/13/2000

"such a shame that a great cd like this gets overlooked in this massively commercial era of today...one the best songs is cousin henry, which is aided by stevie wonder, making for a great pairing...i was lucky enough to find it in a closeout bin...pick this one up on sight...its worth any amount of money that it costs!"
A TRUE SURVIVOR'S LAST HURRAH!
Muhammad A. H. Foye | Hampton, VA United States | 12/13/2002

"Let's hope not! I have been a Bobby Womack fan since he was singing gospel with the Soul Stirrers and this album was his greatest effort. If Bobby does not return to the pop stage, he has left a superb parting gift to any man that wants to bear his soul in private. Resurrection, The Poet, and Poet II will be 1,2, and 3 in the 10 CD changer - my constant riding partners,.... Resurrection reveals the tremendous range of Bobby's classic soul voice, particularly in the ballad "Trying Not to Break Down, a perfectly matched duet with fellow survivor Ron Isley. Bobby mixes country, folk, rap, reggae, and rock in a hypnotic blend spiced with gospel-bred improvisation. He masters the musical experience in this album. His compadres Isley, Stevie Wonder, the Valentinos and Rod Stewart etc. form a circle of love to help lift this brother in prayer. "Cousin Henry", which describes the plight of a vanquished Nam vet, hits me, a fellow veteran, like a sledgehammer. Who cares about the music charts!? This is "must have" soul music! If there were such a thing as musical cryonics, Resurrection should be frozen and revived when a "true soul" generation returns."
This is the Bobby Womack we loved in the 80's

"Bobby Womack's music touches your heart and soul. All of the songs on this album have so much personal meaning, that anyone that lucky enough to get their hands on this album better hold on to it tight. All Bobby Womack fans will continue to treasure this album until another masterpiece is released by this fine artist. For all of us (including myself), that were not fortunate enough to buy this album on the first release, we will be waiting until it is back in stock!!!!!!!!"
