"In spite of the silly cover design of this notable series of reissues (Getz's, Hackett's, Clayton's and other albums have the same design, while the original cover art can sometimes be found inside), this is a true dixieland gem. The cover art doesn't allow you to get enough information on the personell, the material, etc., but this buy was a good gamble.
Backed by a great band, with two trombonists (one of whom is none other than Big T; Jack Teagarden), Hackett really shines with his beautiful tone and subtle interpretation of familiar songs...
No wonder ole Satchelmouth liked Hackett's playing so much, regardless of the basic difference in their approach (basically, Hackett is to Armstrong as Miles is to Dizzy).
It is hard to pick my favorite tune from this album (clocking, alas, only 33 minutes) but it is hard to ignore the additional thrill of Teagarden's beautiful singing on the only number with vocals - Basin Street Blues...
Trad fans and all those curious what dixieland is all about should get this CD.
