An inductee of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Bob Seger has carved a name for himself as one of the foremost heartland-rockers in history. Born in Lincoln Park, Michigan on 6th May 1976, Seger formed his first band at 16 years of age, performing with a plethora of other groups as he established himself in the music scene of neighbouring Detroit. He formed The Bob Seger System in 1968 and released his first album, Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, the following year. Their first single, '2 + 2 =?,' was a hit locally but failed to dent the national charts, while the title track fared much better, reaching No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. Following the critical success but commercial failure of 1970's Mongrel, Seger dissolved the System and began performing exclusively under his own name. Following another couple of albums and a short period playing with folk rock duo Teegarden & Van Winkle, he released Back In '72, which featured future classics 'Turn The Page' and 'Rosalie' - later made famous by Thin Lizzy - as well as the sublime title track, and the record established his long-time association with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and saxophonist Alto Reed. In 1974, Seger formed The Silver Bullet Band, and although they would only appear briefly on his next two albums¸ Seven and Beautiful Loser, it was with them that Seger would later achieve his biggest period of success. On 12th April 1976, Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band released Live Bullet, which began their rise to international fame. Recorded at Cobo Hall in Detroit the previous September and regarded by many as one of the finest live records ever released, the album reached No. 34 on the Billboard chart, with the version of 'Turn The Page' included remaining a staple of classic rock radio to this day. The album would remain in the charts for 168 weeks, and with its follow up Night Moves sold 11 million copies combined.
