Bob Frey is a singer / songwriter who has lived and performed in the Twin Cities since 1993. Older brother of acclaimed and controversial author James Frey (A Million Little Pieces, My Friend Leonard), Bob honed his craft in the bars and coffeehouses of his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, as well as in Oxford, Ohio and Chicago. In both his solo work and with his former band The Buskers, Frey has shown himself to be a true devotee to the art of writing and performing songs. He has a unique and memorable voice that immediately draws and engages a listener, and once engaged the listener is treated to Freys world of social commentary, classic tales and characters ranging from the pathetic to the noble. To paraphrase one notable bard, Frey learned his song well before he started singing. Frey has released three prior albums, and most recently a fourth, Like A Train recorded at Ben Durrants CrazyBeast studio in Northeast Minneapolis. Starting with the title tracks biting but hopeful stance, Frey moves from caustic to compassionate, his memorable melodies and smart writing supported sometimes with a full band, sometimes only with his guitar and harmonica. Quite comfortable as a solo performer, Frey also, at times, performs with different incarnations of a larger ensemble that might include cello, guitar, bass and drums. On his own, though, with his guitar, voice and harmonica, Bob Frey is a singer / songwriter who is comfortable in any venue. Bob also teaches 11th &12th graders at the Perpich Center for Arts Education.*************** FROM BOB:
