Album Description2009 two CD set from these all-time legends of acoustic Blues containing a set of tracks from Leadbelly on Disc One and a collection of tracks from Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee on Disc Two. One of the unanticipated results of the Folk and Blues revival of the early 1960's was the re-discovery of many black Blues, especially Country Blues, singers. John and Alan Lomax had recorded a number of them in the late 1930's -early 1940's and then they fell off of the map. With that development came the new prominence of some working musicians who had previously fallen below the radar like the presently reviewed classic blues harmonica player Sonny Terry and driving guitar playing Brownie McGhee, one of the most productive duos of the period. Fifty years after his death, Leadbelly's songs and style have continued to influence Folk, Blues, and Rock artists. Between 1941 and 1947 Leadbelly recorded some of his best music and it's featured on this set.
