CD Reviews

Great album, some mixed emotions....

(4 out of 5 stars)

"I was introduced to Blue October UK by Todd from A Different Drum many years ago.

The first Blue October album "Incoming" is still one of my favorite albums.

This new album, however, leaves me with some mixed emotions.

Overall I like it more than the " One Day Silver, One Day Gold" album which I think

is a bit boring..

Too bad the album starts with "The Miracle"s Gone", one of my least favorite tracks, together with "All is Said And Done" and " Spinning On The Fullstop". I just don't like the more gritty sound (Elektro-Rock...??) with the "real" drums and the amount of guitars. I always skip these tracks. They sound very compressed too....

On the bright side: this new album has some VERY good all electronic tracks like City Lights, the beautiful ballad "Let Me See" (here they remind me of Erasure), the dreamy "People Are Strange" and "Beautiful Skin" and the very catchy "What's On Your Mind".

Especially this last track sounds very good, with more direct recorded vocals.

The overall production is good.

The 2 instrumental tracks are a nice addition of the album as well.

So overall this new album leaves me with mixed emotions...I just hope the more

"gritty" sound is not the way Blue October's sound further develops. I truly hope

the stay very electronic. Overall rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
