"Davis was one of the top players in Chicago blues during the 30s and 40s. He was one of the Bluebird house musicians and backed people like Tampa Red, Big Bill, and Sonny Boy Williamson I.
This album is a live recording that shows off his powerful left hand and delicate right hand. It doesn't have any examples of the standards he loved to play but it shows his considerable ability in the barrelhouse style.
It's a good introduction to the work of a forgotten master of the blues."
