"This is the band Blackbird, made up of the brothers, Tony and Chip Kinman (the Dils, Rank and File) with a drum machine. They released three albums, two of them import only on Iloki Records and one on Scotty Brothers...

But there's one problem in searching for their CDs. All three albums are self titled. I have the last two, the black covered import and the Scotti Brothers release, but have been looking for the first forever. In this page, the album shown and the track listing is for the first import, but the CD info is for the third album.

As for the music, it's mostly Jesus and Mary Chainesque pop with a dancier kick to it, given that they are using a drum machine. The vocals are definitely the Kinman's and the songwriting is very strong. After this incarnation, they went alt-country as the Kinman Brothers."

"I just purchased the 3rd(?) Blackbird album (on Scotti Bros) and I think it's great. I'm not sure what the other reviewers are on about- this is a great album filled w/ the brilliant vocal harmonies of the Kinmans. I like this album much better than the Rank 'n' File stuff (which is also mostly very good). It reminds me a lot of early Screaming Trees- I wonder if Lanegan and the Connors ever hung out w/ the Kinmans? And a little of Joy Division. While this is definitely not Cowboy Nation, it is undeniable that there are strong hints here of what's to come. I'd love to get my ears on the other two Blackbird disks... By the way, are ye sure Junior Brown's nowhere on this one?"
