Synopsis

Product Description
Armed with little more than his father's extensive record collection of jazz, soul, psychedelic rock, folk, comedy, and a Kurzweil 2000 keyboard, Black Spade's music is a melting pot of sounds hailing from St. Louis by way of NY, Detroit, LA, and everywhere that hip-hop has carved a distinctive and influential sound for itself. Spade's one-man team approach is full of burbling synths and off-kilter drums while his voice slides smoothly over choruses coated in multi-tracked vocals and skipping, roughshod drums. This release includes a bonus cut ¿ an exclusive remix of "Loves Right Here" from Waajeed of Platinum Pied Pipers. "Black Spade...he's definitely the future of hip-hop" - Daz-I-Kue (Bugz In The Attic).

CD Reviews

Black Spade Reppin to the fullest
Byoba | 04/10/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I know Black Spade from the St.louis Hip-Hop Community and I have seen a lot of his shows. Spade is probably the best versatile producer out of the Lou as his debut album definitely reveals without any doubt in my opinion. This album has great subject matter that one would find missing with most commercial albums that only follow the typical trends of sex exploiting, drugs and violence... So, it is very refreshing to hear such a diversified album that speaks on relationships, friendships, socio-political views, childhood, and music appreciation... The music composition is unique and different with each song, I even like how he uses certain 80's and 90's sounds that are very simple that are arranged with an ideal purpose to whatever track, none of the sound arrangements comes off as fillers nor do they sound forced. The samples are on point on such songs as "she's the one", also the skits are not over redundant and only adds to compliment the albums content. Lastly the guest appearance from Pan Gea ( Wafeek and Rocky Knuckles )is a nice addition, as well as vocals from Tefpoe, Gotta be Karim, Lotus, Coultrain, and Illspitta... Throughout, never a dull moment, indeed, this album is a definite repeat all...! Black Spade will have longevity in the Hip-Hop World. Pioneering originality will always keep one in the playing field and in heavy rotation... Black Spade exemplifies that you do not have to sell out to trends to stay relevant, not all Hip-Hop artist are in it just for the money... But, as the title of his album states, to serve with love... Nuff said!"
