"I didn't get this first release from Ozzy Osbourne, Toni Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward until I was 16 years old, a full 10 years after it was released. I was instantly hooked. As a matter of fact, after getting it on vinyl in Iowa, I got the international version of the album in Tokyo 3 years later due to the higher quality manufacturing and lyrics always accompanying Japanese vinyl. And of course, I later got it on CD.
While the title track and "The Wizard" got the most play off this particular release, the entire set of songs is superb. If you consider what was out at the time, there were very few metal bands around and literally none with the same riffs the amazing Tony Iommi came up with. Ozzy's voice, although still excellent today, was loud and crisp on this self-titled debut.
Let's face it: this is a true classic work of art that started an era of uniqueness never again likely to be repeated."
