CD ReviewsPut on your dancing shoes R. Kyle | USA | 12/09/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "Austin, Texas has deserved its name for giving birth to some fantastic music, but generally it's not been in the soul genre. Well, the city's remedied that with the release of this new CD by Black Joe Lewis. The music sounds like everything that I loved about soul back in the day: James Brown, Otis Redding, etc with modern production values so it doesn't just sound good on your car studio.
The music's raw and the lyrics are powerful and explicit, but the groove is good enough to get you up on your feet and dancing. Favorites--I don't have one. "Gunpowder" was the song I heard first on the radio, but I like "Master Sold My Baby" and frankly, there really isn't a song that won't get you up and moving. Rebecca Kyle, December 2009" |
