CD Reviews

A live recording usually means inferior recording. Not so.

"Take the "Standards" recording and put a live audience with it and you have this one. Usually a "live" recording means sub-par recording. Not so with this album. Subtle, yet miniscule changes show Birelli's performances are not different from his studio work. Both are exceptional!!"
Phenomenal!!

"One of the best, if not the overall best guitar, doublebass, drums live album ever. Bireli here outplay himself with extremely melodically, technically, armonically inventive, courageous solos on some of the best known standards. Smile, Stella by starlight, Days of wine & roses, I got rhythmn, a bebop blues, ... I mean if you just have to own one singular Jazz guitar album in your life, this would probably be a right choice just for the material, the standard reharmonizations of the tunes, and the line up. I don't know how many times I have heard this album. Thousands. There is so much energy, so much truth, so much musical contents and so much will to entertain and to tell stories that is amazing. It is a trip in the hipness of Jazz in general and of Jazz guitar phrasing in particular. There is a lot of Django, Wes, Rainey, Farlow, Pass, Parker and Pastorius in Bireli's way of playing. He is truly phenomenal and this live album reflect this truth in a most beautiful way. If you don't know Bireli, absolutly buy this one."

"This is one album that you cherish like a treasure. Similar to a complex wine, it even seems to get better the more you listen to it. It is very subtile, yet it unveils even more flavor over time. I was amazed at by how it can be listened to casualy, but still be an album that you would listen to with headphones, and still ask yourself " how does he do it???" Bireli's unbelievable mastery of the guitar makes this recording an amazing performance, sustained by two other brilliant players: Chris Min Doky (bass) and Andre Cecarelli (drums).
I have seen Bireli many times in concert, once he was sharing the scene with Mike Stern, who basically sat on his amp the whole time with his mouth open, watching Bireli deliver. What Bireli accomplishes I guess surprises and amazes, and like all great artists, his phrasing and virtuosity seems to all just make sens. Everything seems like a childish game, with the simplicity that he is only one capable of achieving.
Buy this album. Please do yourself a favor. I actually bought another one for myself the other day...just in case."
