Album Description It takes a brave man to go it alone, in music or in life, and with Tale Of The Tape, Boston-born Billy Squier showed he had sufficient backbone (and material) to put his own name squarely behind his songs. Produced by prog-professor Eddie Offord and featuring top names from the US East Coast rock fraternity (including guitarist Bruce Kulick, later to join Kiss), Tale...was the record that established Squier as a singer/songwriter/guitarist of genuine stature. True, he would have bigger-selling albums, but none more influential, with 'The Big Beat' now topping the list of most sampled songs ever. Throw in numbers as downright potent as 'Young Girls', Axl Rose fave 'Calley O' & radio hit 'You Should Be High Love' and you have an album that laid the foundations for a multi-platinum career that continues to this day. In my opinion, Squier is a highly underrated, straightforward rocker. His unique vocals perfectly compliment a stripped-down accompaniment of raw guitars and thundering drums. This CD contains a lot of little-known, yet catchy tunes. Not really a bad song on here. Standing out particularly is the anthemic "The Big Beat" and the girlfriend-gone-astray "Who's Your Boyfriend". If you like simple, gritty hard rock, then I'd highly recommend this." The Big Beat, Rich Kid and You should be high love. Songs like Calley oh and Who's your boyfriend are great catchy pop tunes. Squier first solo album should've had more hits but he did great on all his albums even without the hits that avoided him after MTV killed it with the Rock me tonight video. The song was and is still great! MTV ruined many a carrer but Squier still has die hard fans."
