CD ReviewsA wonderful collection from a underappreciated country great Scott Verrette (verrette@wolfenet.c | Seattle, WA USA | 06/14/1998 (5 out of 5 stars) "Billie Jo Spears had a string of wonderful country classics during the late 70's and early 80's which, sadly, have been forgotten/overlooked by those stations which claim to play classic "oldies". She is a good old-fashioned country singer from the time before country music became commercial/pop-oriented and the melodies/lyrics are both enjoyable and memorable. My personal favorite is "Silver Wings and Golden Rings."" Grab This If You Can Find It Daniel Jason | New York, NY | 03/14/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "Full-bodied, emotional and dazzling performances by one of country's most underrated females. Spears' deep and drawling voice and dramatic delivery make songs like "Blanket On The Ground," "Stay Away From the Apple Tree" and "What I've Got In Mind" rich and wonderful. This collection, made up of United Artists material, is missing one big Spears hit -- "Mr. Walker, It's All Over", which was a Capitol recording -- but is filled with terrific stuff. Get the Hux Records CD 2-fer of "Mr. Walker It's All Over" and "Just Singin'" to complement this disc, and your Spears collection is complete." Female George Jones blackandwhitedog | philadephia | 10/30/2007 (4 out of 5 stars) "When asked whether she considered herself the female George Jones, Tammy Wynnette responded that, no, she wasn't because the female George Jones was Billie Jo Spears. And she was right. I can think of no other country singer, with the exception of Dolly in her early days, with the kind of vocal suppleness and edge that Billy Jo displays. Not that Tammy wasn't the most soulful."
