"From Proper Records, Bill Haley's From Western Swing To Rock is a wonderful 4-disc box set. It was a treat to come across this box set at a store last year. Every song on Disc One: Rocket 88, I have never heard before and was quite pleased with most of them. Disc Two: Rock The Joint is a carbon copy of a CD I got a few years back from Roller Coaster Records titled Rock The Joint. Disc Three: Rock Around The Clock, has the typical Decca Haley tracks we've all heard before. Also present are the addition of 4 Jodimar's tracks. Disc Four: Don't Knock The Rock contains 8 Jodimar's tracks and two Jaguar tracks. There are four live Haley tracks as well as 11 more studio tracks.
What would of made this collection complete, for me anyway would of been the inclusion of 40 Cups Of Coffee and Rockin', Rollin' Rover. I'm glad Hook, Line and Sinker was included on this compilation, its the only CD version I have.
The CD packaging is tight, The 4 cd's are in four seperate cardboard sleeves. A 48 page booklet is included which details the bands history and includes some rare photographgs and a discography. Proper Records also includes a booklet of other CD's currently available. It would of been nice if a larger style box would of been used or a book style box that opens like a book.
My only gripe is the font used on the back of the box listing the 96 song's. I have to pull out the ol' magnifing glass to read the list. Each individual cd sleeve also has the tracks listing.
Overall the sound quality is great and my buddy's who have heard it love it too."
