CD Reviews

It's About Time!
Daniel Garcia | Missouri | 12/15/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Reef Carnival, the opening track, is one of those pieces that inspired me to dive into jazz back in the 80's -- I knew that this was more than some stale, shopping mall easy listening stuff, even if it's "smooth jazz." I first heard it while recording the local college stations jazz show into my cassette machine. For years, I'd hear the enigmatic sounds of Evan's electronic harmonizer plugged into his sax and the otherworldy quality it added to the Caribbean strains. Take that same track and think, "Pat Metheny Group (Danny Gottlieb/EMI era)" on sax. It took me until 2007 to finally locate the LP to hear the rest of the album. My phonograph player is ancient, and I didn't have a decent stylus to play this album in hi-fi (man do I sound like a fossil?). When I found the mp3 album, I was more than happy to download this album. Very happy to know that this beautiful album is now in its worldwide CD release. IT'S ABOUT TIME!"
