"New Day is probably the best album of this year thus far from any artist. From the title track at the beggining all the way to the last song their is some real inspirational songs with a unique sound that only Big Mountain can provide. With Los Alacranes providing the intro to 'Tierra Indigena' this is a powerful peace of work. 'The Wind' and 'Mama' are very powerful songwriting and well arranged. Quino, James and the guys' sonwriting is as fresh as it has ever been. Horns are mixed in very nice I might add. It is to our benefit that Big Mountain has stuck it out through the years to bring us this inspirational force driven music. With all the bubble gum sounds out there it is nice to hear a band that is a true talent and relates to the people. In these times we need a band like Big Mountain. Continue the Struggle - Adelante BIG MOUNTAIN !!!"

"New Day marks the first studio project and tour for the veteran group Big Mountain in over six years. Their new album features an incredibly tight rhythm section of jembei, drum set, and bass over mariachi and classical guitars. The horn section provides the top end, flowing in between the bilingual (English and Spanish) vocals. It's a solid rock-reggae album that has some up-front pop elements, and nothing is too extreme. On a few of the tracks the rhythm section moves to a few slow tunes, but even they are well put together in both syncopation and sound quality. Free from their contracts, the band started thier label Rebel Ink Records and celebrates their independance. New Day is an excellent example of an album that reflects exactly how a band starts to play once they become free of the influence of big labels and the pressures of fulfilling a contract."
