"Bessie Smith was among the greatest blues singers from the 1920's, her music is as fresh sounding today as it ever was, she still has something to say to today's listeners. Her music is timeless, she had such New Orleans jazz virtuosos as Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bachet, & Johnny Dodds who often accompanied her in the studio. Her recordings should be savored by claic jazz fans as well as classic blues fans. Also try Ma Rainey, for some great 20's blues singing."
