"Although Herrmann's compositions for the films "Jason and the Argonauts" and "Three Worlds of Gulliver" are given the full treatment on other releases and are underrepresented here, it is the cues from the Harryhausen classic "Mysterious Island" that is the real treat. Herrmann's music for the film adapted from the Wells story is as thrilling as anything that the author could have imagined. "The Prelude", "The Balloon Ride", "The Giant Crab", "The Giant Bees", and the dynamic "The Giant Bird" rank as some of the best of Herrmann's long and illustrious career.
Yeah, the disc is pricey, but you're dealing with Herrmann, not any second-tier film composer."
