"Charles Munch was one of the great conductors of Berlioz, and his early stereo recording of Symphonie Fantastique remains one of the best renditions of the work. This account was made after the conductor left Boston, during a guest appearance with the Hungarian Radio and Television Orchestra in 1966. The sound is good, the playing is fine, but overall the performance is not one for the ages like his earlier version. I'm glad Australian Eloquence reissued this disc (it was available in the U.S. in the early 90s), but this is truly for Munch devotees only."
