Synopsis

Product Description
Frothed from the fertile soil of Montreal, BENEATH THE MASSACRE's brand of brutally technical death metal was all but reassured as more than simply studio magic during the band s busy 2007 and early 2008 on the road proving their technical prowess in the live setting, and with Dystopia, the band's sets forth on its latest claim to the crown of Canada's most brutal band.

With such a rich national heritage of bands both brilliantly technical and unrelentingly brutal, BENEATH THE MASSACRE's latest foray into the extreme underground sees the band continuing to build on the interest and fanbase gained over the course of a few short years. Initially leaving extreme music fans worldwide salivating for more than 5 titillating tracks upon release of the band's debut EP, Mechanics of Dysfunction the follow-up, and the band s debut for new home Prosthetic Records was unleashed upon the masses in early 2007, boasting 10 tracks combining the brutality of Suffocation, the brutal skillfulness of Origin, cacophonous melody of The Dillinger Escape Plan, and the sheer technicality of fellow Canadians Cryptopsy, all under the watchful eye of producer Yannick St-Amand (Despised Icon, Ion Dissonance).

CD Reviews

A Massacre alright...

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I'm sure most of you have seen THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, right? It's not only a staple among Horror fans, but among Metal fans as well. Well DYSTOPIA by the Canadian Tech/Death Metal band Beneath The Massacre is the musical equivalent of a chainsaw-wielding homicidal maniac unapologetically ripping through anyone unfortunate enough to get in his way. From the album opener "Condemned" to the closing track "Procreating The Infection", DYSTOPIA is a non-stop assault on the eardrums. It's unrelentingly brutal. It's an ugly masterpiece. There is never a dull moment on this album and the momentum of the fast and hard Death Metal presented on this album never slows down.

I have always been a Death Metal fan, just not really into the whole "scene", if you will. Before this I had never even heard Beneath The Massacre, but have heard the name before. I thought I would give them a try and start with this album, and all I can say is that I'm glad I did. I don't have any of their past material to compare this to, but if any of their other stuff is like this then Beneath The Massacre has just gained a new fan. There are no tracks on the album that stand out because they're ALL good! The drums consist mostly of blastbeats while the guitar work is just all over the place and really Tech-y, occasionally stopping at the drop of a dime before going into heavy, pounding breakdowns. The vocalist is definitely one of the most impressive Death Metal vocalists I have ever heard. There are no Six Feet Under/Cannibal Corpse style screeches and absolutely NO singing. It's all just straight Death Metal growling and Beneath The Massacre's vocalist sounds like the Cookie Monster possessed by Satan himself. The formula is pretty much the same throughout the entire album, but it's done extremely well.

With the year 2008 drawing to a close, it's safe to say that DYSTOPIA is definitely one of the best Death Metal releases this year and one of the best Extreme Metal releases this year, hands down. Highly recommended.
