"I've been a Belinda fan ever since I grabbed her self-titled LP and I was certainly more excited at getting the sophomore album, UTOPIA. So imagine my surprise while I was browsing the CDs at Wal-mart when I saw yet another album out from her! The cover looked nice and the labeling read that it contained 18 hits. 18 hits! I purchased it and took it home.
Yes, when I bought this CD, I was well aware that these "hits" were songs she released before her self-titled album. These songs appear on various television show soundtracks, some shows in which she appeared, all gathered into one CD. Now, if you've ever heard her first two albums, you'd immediately notice that the general style of music is a big contrast to what I've been used to from Belinda. I was used to the punky power-pop/rock style she has on her two full-length albums, but this one was a lot different. You've got cumbia, a bit of salsa and a bit of latin pop in this CD. I'm not a huge fan of these genres (except latin pop) so the only songs I was able to enjoy were the ones from her self-titled album (which I already own). The rest of the songs were weaker, childish with somewhat cheesy lyrics. Not my cup of tea. Granted, I've never watched Belinda's TV shows, therefore the music has no appeal to me.
If you are a hardcore Belinda fan and loved her TV tunes, I recommend this for you highly, as it gathers all those into one CD and is sure to make you feel nostalgic. But if you've never been exposed to the pre-Belinda LP days, and are looking to try her out, it's better that you enjoy her current music and style. I wouldn't exactly say this album has her "greatest" hits, it's more just ALL the songs she's produced into one CD. Looking for great Belinda music? Try UTOPIA or her self-titled Debut. Those have some great hits."
