CD ReviewsSeattle's Young Lions show growing confidence 10/06/1998 (5 out of 5 stars) "Bebop & Destruction show a lot of growth on their second album, Heavy Machinery. Their first work, The Day After, showcased some great originals and their populist, yet no-apologies attitude. Heavy Machinery, produced by Wayne Horvitz, shows that they have come into their own as improvisors. The track "Big Fan," a John Scofield tune, shows off the capabilities of all four members, as well as their innovative group sensibility. Beginning uptempo, it has some ferocious playing by Dan Heck. Then it dissolves into a free feel, with a plaintive, meditative blowing from Marc Fendel. Drummer John Wicks then begins a very earthy, funky groove, and Geoff Harper lays down some seriously funky stand-up bass."
