"Since (as I write) there are no other reviews of this album, I venture to add some information. However, I'm a member of the band Hamewith, which plays on two tracks of this compilation, so I refrain from comment on the quality of the music or the recording.
The subtitle of this CD perhaps needs some explanation, being an apparent oxymoron:
This album consists of a variety of Scottish folk music, all the tracks being donated by California musicians to raise money for the first U.S. Shinty club (Shinty being an alarming Scottish sport similar to Hockey).
The musicians, who appear in various combinations, include:
Michael Bentley -- bodhrán
Lawrence Drummond -- trump (jew's harp)
Hamewith -- fiddles, guitars, bouzouki, bass
Calli Morrow -- Harp
Beth Patterson -- vocal
Lyle Ramshaw -- piano
Molly's Revenge -- pipes, bouzouki, guitar, fiddle
Aaron Shaw (of the Wicked Tinkers) -- pipes
Joe Weed -- fiddle
Susan Worland -- fiddle
The booklet includes notes on the tunes and the game of Shinty, and photographs of the latter.
The total time is 55'30".
Obviously, you have to discount my rating."
