"I first heard the track 'New Orleans Stomp' played by the Bay City Jazz Band on a compilation CD titled 'New Orleans Jazz', even though it is San Francisco style jazz. Apparently, San Francisco jazz only borrows elements of the New Orleans style jazz mixing it with ragtime and two beat jazz (That's what it says in the liner notes). What caught me was the great driving rhythm section where you can distinctly hear the banjo and the tuba 'pumping' along in sync. As I said in my title I really don't listen to a lot of Jazz so I thought this sound was quite unique. The album contains both upbeat and slower numbers but is consistent in it's overall sound and is well put together. It was recorded in 1957 and nearly fifty years later it still sounds wonderfully fresh. Down the track I may investigate some other jazz bands to see if I can find a similar sound somewhere but for now this CD is enough for me."
