"Recorded shortly after the breakup of the Replacements, Stintson was only 28 and, frankly, I don't think anyone expected him to make much of a solo career (correctly, unfortunately). But this lone solo LP is great -- it's a great blend of post-Replacements pop/bar-rock, alternating weariness and optimism. It's the sound of a Rock 'N Roll Ghost after a long winter."

Before the "New" GnR with Tommy Stinson there was Bash n Pop! Living in Minneapolis and knowing all the usual suspects it is hard to give an unbiased review but in all fairness I simply have to say it is really a great pop album. It has all the flavour you might expect of a Mats release with Tommy's own unique brand stamped on top. Quite understandable considering Tommy was playing with the same guys since he was 13. Yeah I saw him back then in those days as well.
Gotta set the record straight regarding the side men for this project. They were an integral part of the process of this cd and gave Tommy what he demanded musically, thus the product that came to be. Tommy wrote the material and the band played the parts under his direction as did a few of the guest musicians. Every great band has internal conflicts for one reason or the other and all parties here were/are quite normal considering...now the Mats? That's another review! Lol
Kevin Foley (bassist) was fired before the cd came out and didn't tour so Caleb Palimeter came on board. Steve Brantseg (guitar player) remained in the band after the cd was released, went on tour with the band and performed on Letterman with Tommy- (got it on tape!) After the tour, Tommy moved to LA, Steve Brantseg remained in Mpls and Steve Foley (kevin's bro) moved to LA. At that time Tommy did one last tour with some LA musicians and then put Bash n Pop to bed.
Buy this cd for great memories/music of a time that was! A must for any serious collector of that time period and for any Replacements fan."

"I bought this cd in 1992 when it was released and played the living death out of it on college radio. This is still a cd that I throw on once and awhile and still enjoy immensley. Worth picking up for the price listed here. Worth every penny."
