CD ReviewsA grower album for sure Smoking Ace | Nashville,TN USA | 03/19/2010 (4 out of 5 stars) "I was not impressed the first time I heard Rooty. Sure there were some standout tracks, but for the most part I saw no difference between it and a homemade DDR mixtape. I put it on the shelf for a few years, and now that I have come back to it I realize that I didn't give it enough credit. It's definitly not a perfect cd, maybe not even a great one. But it is alot of fun.
The Breakdown: Romeo- (4.5/5)- A fun and breezy opener. Great vocals. Breakaway- (5/5)- One of the album's best tracks. It has a Great beat and a catchy hook. SFM-(4/5)- This is a very sexy track. It's like house, mixed with Tom Jones and scat. Jus 1 Kiss- (3/5)- If this track doesn't remind you of Dance Dance Revolution you're nuts. The beat is nice, but the lyrics are just too simplistic for me. Broken Dreams- (5/5)- I love this one. Very mellow yet haunting. The mariachi trumpets are a nice touch. I want U-(4/5)- This one has grown on me over time. Catchy, and lyrically it's one of the albums stronger tracks. Get me off- (5/5)- Prince would be proud. The pulsating beat is a great party starter. Where's you're head at- (5/5)- We've all heard of this, and I won't lie it's the reason I originally bought this. The Beastie boys meets Gary Numan and Eiffel 65. Addictive track. Crazy Love-(3/5)- A nice electronic beat. But somewhat forgettable Do your thing-(1/5)- Without a doubt the worst song on the album. You know a song is bad when the first thing that comes to mind is a Queen Latifah Movie trailer. All I know- (4/5)- A Sweet Mellow song with Robin Thick-ish vocals. Overall Rooty is a fun dance album with a few dud tracks. Like I said before, If you're a fan of upbeat DDR type music you will love this, and probably already own it. Otherwise it might not be worth your time. Hope the Breakdown was helpful rather then tedious. *I skipped the 2 -Lude tracks because they aren't songs. " |
