"Elisabeth Wallfisch is an extraordinarily sensitive and accomplished player. She can do with her violin what few people can do with their own voices. Her renditions of Bach's Sonatas are subtle, vibrant and charged with emotion. Her technique is flawless, but what really sets her apart from other violinists is her ability to convey so much passion and feeling. Paul Nicholson and Richard Tunnicliffe provide wonderful yet unobtrusive accompaniment, and as in all Hyperion releases the sound quality is superb. Such well known pieces need no introduction but these versions are so extraordinary that they feel completely different from other recordings. This is Bach at his most subtle and introspective tackled by one of the greatest musicians of our time. In my opinion this CD is an essential addition to any Bach collection."
