"Even though I have not heard other recordings of the works, I can not imagine a more impassioned performance from both performers. The three sonatas with accompaniment were so well done that they brought tears to my eyes in several instances The partita for solo flute is as good and as important as Bach's solo violin an cello works. Naxos has great notes as always. Bach's flute sonatas belong in the collection of all classical music lovers."

"I also haven't heard another version besides James Galway which did not hold my interest at all. Though playing on a modern flute, Alanko's performance is really convincing; I find his slight pauses and rubatos very effective. The harpsichordist is an excellent companion but my only minor gripe is that I wish the harpsichord were more audible."
