Synopsis

Album Description
"There is something impalpable in this performance of the Goldberg Variations. Ekaterina Dershavina gives a fine performance of this work, perhaps one of the best available on the piano. She allies both subtle phrasing, for the slow variations, and breathtaking energy for the fast ones. In spite of a few small moments where the magic is lost, this is a brilliant recording, and at a budget price as well! Snap it up for a rare example of pianistic excellence." -- MusicWeb International

CD Reviews

Surprise!
Kilchomin | WI USA | 09/08/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Wow! What a revelation! I bought this cheap on a whim and it's close to the top my list! Just so you know where I am coming from: Gould (1981) Gould (live at Salzburg) Andras Schiff -- then maybe this one."

"Perfect and perfectly musical throughout. Every note is positioned with thought and sensitivity and intelligence. The piano sounds clear without ever sounding harsh. Because there are no eccentricities, some may think it lacks character, but I think that makes it refreshing and wonderful and admirable in every way. This recording is a gem."

"This is an extraordinarily fresh rendering of the well-known Goldbergs, ever so spritely and spirited. She surely holds her own with Gould and Schiff, and is more fun to listen to. Saucy and perky, and amazingly adept."
