Very Ordinary Performance

"One can't blame Mr Kapp for trying. However, he does not have a natural feel for these pieces or if he does, it is not evident in this recording. The rhythm and the maintenance thereof is not necessarily strict and makes the listener feel uncomfortable. The violin playing and especially its double stops are not well-executed and many of the tempi appear contrived and unoriginal. The only redeeming feature is the recorder playing which is just gorgeous. Not the most outstanding buy, but the price is right."
A Hidden Treaure

"Philharmonia Virtuosi are probably one of the "hidden" treasures of the classical music world: the sort of less known but truly talented groups you always hope to find. The playing is fresh and lively, and that spirit invigorates the music but does not overpower it. They have a true "feel" for Bach.Richard Kapp often tells the story that the only fist fight he ever got into in his life was over whether or not Bach's music was "melodic." While he's no longer such a "hot head," his passion for Bach's music still infects these performances.Highly recommended!"
