"Of the initial two EMI releases by piano star Ayako Uehara, this is easily the better one.



The sonics are excellent. The performances are sublime.



But most-importantly, we hear the glory of Tchaikovsky in his piano works. The tonal shadings, dynamics, and depth Ayako gets out of the instrument is reminiscent of the great Antonio Barbosa with Chopin. Never overdone, never pretentious. Ayako's most-amazing trait, aside from her incredible chops (!), is how she captures the spirit and emotional drama of the composer. Especially with Tchaikovsky, which is amongst the most-difficult to convey such effect. And consistently so.



I personally hope this is the first of many recordings from pianist Ayako Uehara.



In spite of the price, this is one import recording that is worth every penny."
